Dr. W. Bingham Hunter,who joined Phoenix Seminary in 2007, is a former Professor of Bible Exposition and Academic Dean of Talbot School of Theology; Professor of New Testament and Senior Vice President of Education and Academic Dean of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; and Visiting Scholar at Cambridge University and the University of Strasbourg. Dr. Hunter is a fellow of the Institute for Biblical Research and member of the Evangelical Theological Society, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the national ministerial of the Evangelical Free Church of America. His experience includes prior service as a USAF officer; pastoral leadership of Adult Ministries and Discipleship in a large multi-site church; and service as a field representative with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. He has been a seminary Trustee and was a member of the founding Board of the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity (Bannockburn Institute). He also was a member of the Advisory Council for the English Standard Version of the Bible and is a member of the Board of Advisors for the International Institute for Christian Studies.

 

Dr. Hunter has led accreditation teams for the Association of Theological Schools, served as an accreditation or curriculum consultant to theological schools in the United States and Europe, and has taught as a Visiting Professor in the masters or doctoral programs of the Associated Canadian Theological Seminaries, Fuller Theological Seminary, Rosemead School of Psychology, Talbot School of Theology, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Western Seminary.    

 

His publications include The God Who Hears (IVP, 1986; translated into Russian, Korean, and Portuguese) and Praying when Life Hurts (IVP, 2003; translated into Indonesian).  He is a contributor to The Dictionary of Paul and His Letters (IVP, 1993) and other theological dictionaries.

 

A Bible teacher and conference speaker who has spoken widely to a diversity of audiences, parachurch ministries, and churches, Dr. Hunter is especially interested in biblical worldview, discipleship, Christian prayer, and worship.
